In a series of exhibitions in the northern part of the Westhoek, the project 'Her Side of the War' will turn the spotlight on a number of iconic female figures from the First World War: Queen Elisabeth, Käthe Kollwitz, Marie Curie, Madame Tack, Mietje Boeuf, Elsie Knocker and Mairi Chisholm. These strong women from the Great War illustrate different aspects of the female role during the war, including scientific research, politics, art, medical care and even logistics. We will give these women a platform and will link their experiences to those of women in present-day conflict situations. Learn more about their stories in Diksmuide, Veurne, Koekelare and De Panne!
